The Power of Praying Again (and Again)

Luke 18:1-8 Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. It was the story of a persistent widow—someone who didn’t have power, position, or influence, but she did have determination. She kept knocking on the door of a judge who didn’t fear God or care about people. And eventually, even that corrupt judge gave in. Not because he cared—but because she wouldn’t quit.
That stopped me!
The point wasn’t that God is like that judge. He’s not. The point was that if even he responded to persistent requests, how much more will a loving Father respond to His daughters who refuse to stop knocking?
I didn’t go looking for this passage. I had only about ten minutes that morning and wasn’t sure where to turn. But my Bible happened to open to Luke 18, and the Lord met me there. I realized this was exactly what He’d already been stirring in my heart—prayer, endurance, faith.
We’re often told to “let go and let God,” but this passage shows us something else: Keep going. Keep asking. Don’t stop.
What It Means to Keep Knocking: There’s a difference between praying once and praying persistently. And Jesus knew that. That’s why He started this teaching with a simple instruction: “Always pray and don’t give up.”
God is not annoyed by your repeated prayers. He’s not put off when you ask again. It’s in the repetition that faith is formed. Not because we’re trying to wear Him down, but because persistence builds perseverance in us. It strengthens our trust in His character.
Sometimes the answer is “yes.” Sometimes it’s “no.” And often, it’s “wait.”
But waiting is not wasted when it’s done in faith.

What It Means When He Seems Silent: Some of you have prayed for years for a prodigal child, a restored marriage, a healing, a breakthrough, a baby, a new beginning. And it feels like silence.
But silence is not the same as absence. God sees. God knows. And God is still at work behind the scenes in ways you may not yet understand.
When it feels like nothing is happening, something is—He’s forming you.
He’s growing your endurance, deepening your dependence, and teaching you to trust His timing more than your own understanding. And in the process, He’s making you more like Him.
What This Is Teaching Us Today: This parable isn’t about annoying God into action. It’s about forming a faith that doesn’t flinch. It’s about learning to keep praying even when your emotions say stop. It’s about remembering that persistence is not a lack of faith—it’s the proof of it.
You don’t need the perfect words. You don’t need long hours. You need a heart that believes enough to keep asking. And if Jesus said, 'Don't give up,' then we shouldn’t.
Final Word: You might be tired of knocking. You might be tempted to stop. But let me encourage you—keep going. Keep seeking. Keep trusting the One who hears every prayer.
Your Father is not like the unjust judge. He loves you. He’s for you. And He’s working all things for your good—even if you can’t see it knock again. And believe again because you are not bothering God. You are building faith.
