Strength for the Battle: Trusting God When the Fight is Spiritual

Fighting Battles We Can’t See

Life’s storms don’t just hit our calendars or bank accounts; they hit our minds, our hearts, and our faith. And often, what we’re facing isn’t just physical or emotional. It’s spiritual. The fight is unseen, but it’s genuine.

Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:10–11,

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

We are equipped. Christ has already won the victory, and in Him, we stand. The problem? We often forget who we are and what we’ve been given. In the middle of pain or fear, we reach for control instead of Christ. We strive to resolve conflicts in our way rather than through spiritual means.

But we don’t fight like the world fights. 2 Corinthians 10:4 says,

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”

These storms aren’t just testing your endurance; they’re training your spirit.

God Has Not Left You Defenseless

There’s power in remembering that God doesn’t just allow storms; He equips us to walk through them. No weapon formed against you will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and if He allows a battle, He’s going to use it for your good and His glory. When the enemy tries to whisper lies like “You’re alone” or “You’re not strong enough,” we respond like Jesus did with the Word.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

You are not without weapons. You are not without authority. And you are absolutely not alone.

Suit Up, Sister

Every piece of armor from Ephesians 6:13–18 serves a purpose:

  • Belt of Truth – Holds everything together. Without truth, everything falls apart.

  • Breastplate of Righteousness – Covers your heart and motives. You stand righteous because of Christ.

  • Shoes of the Gospel of Peace – Keep you grounded, even when you want to run.

  • Shield of Faith – Extinguishes every fiery dart of fear, doubt, and lies.

  • Helmet of Salvation – Guards your thoughts. Reminds you who you are and whose you are.

  • Sword of the Spirit (Word of God) – Your weapon. Your lifeline. Not just for study—this is survival.

Paul ends this list with prayer, not as an afterthought but as a strategy:

“Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance” Ephesians 6:18

Prayer is not your backup plan. It’s the battle plan.

The Victory is Already Won

Let’s not forget the best part: we’re not fighting for victory; we’re fighting from it.

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57

Your job is not to win. Your job is to stand. That word “stand” in scripture isn’t passive. It means to remain unshaken. To hold the line. To not give up ground. Even when fear creeps in, even when you feel alone, even when everyone else around you seems to be living casual Christianity, and you’re burning to live surrendered. God sees you. And you’re not fighting solo.

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion... Resist him, firm in your faith.” 1 Peter 5:8–9

Conclusion: Stand Strong, Stand Steady, Stand in Christ

Maybe your storm feels endless. Perhaps you’re weary from the battle. But your confidence isn’t in your strength, it’s in His. Suit up every day, not to prove something, but to stand rooted in what’s already been secured.

Let His Word be your anchor. Let prayer be your power. And let every storm be a reminder that He is with you, in you, and fighting for you.

You’re not a victim. You’re a warrior. Keep standing, sister.

“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” Exodus 14:14
